THE NATURE Råstrand is situated in a woodland with a varying nature - forests, water, mountains and mires.
Vindelälven - one of the last wild rivers in Europe – flows through the village with a very good fishing in rapids and slow water.
The summer is extremely light, especially in the middle of June when the sun almost doesn’t disappear below the horizon at all. It may be hard to sleep early. You may experience an incredible sunsets above the river. Our flora is unique in many ways. Lily of the valley, Norna, Lady’s slipper and our province flower Charle’s sceptre are some of them.
The spring is fantastic when the trees are leafing and also the autumn with its bright colours and fresh air.
FISHING
You find some of Vindelälvens best fishing-waters in this region. Salmon, Salmon trout and Grayling are the most coveted sorts. But fishing of perch and pike are also very common.
World Championship and European Championship in fly-fishing has been carried out. And will continue! If you want you may rent a rowboat to get out on the water, but there are also very good sections of fly-fishing.
ANIMALS
The region has plenty of elks and there are also bears. You often meet reindeers on the roads so as a driver you have to be careful. Animals like rabbits and fox are also common. There are a great variety of species of birds. When the birds of passage arrive in the spring the area is visited by many bird-watchers because of the great number of birds and some unique species which normally don’t breed in this region. One example is Smew, and the Fish hawks are breeding in the area around the village.
HUNTING
The most common hunt in the region is the elk-hunting which starts the first Monday in September and the season is open until the 31st of August. But you have to be a part of a hunting party. For bear hunting it is about the same thing.
You may hunt smaller animals and birds in private, but you have to follow the regulations which you get from the local hunting association. There are also different times when hunting is permitted and the time may vary from year to year.
