The days are very short from November to February. The early spring starts in March and continues until the end of April when the snow and the ice melt away.
From the end of November it is usually snow and it disappears in the middle of April. The winter is also an experience with the snow, the cold and the darkness. But the darkness may vary a lot dependent on if it is cloudless, moonlight or northern lights.
To be able to experience our nature you should bring your own skis.
TEMPERATURE The temperature use to vary between –5°C and –20°C. So far it is okay with activities outside, but it is however not unusual with periods with temperatures around -30°C, or even lower. To just be outside and walk, hear the special crackling sound for every footstep and to breathe in the cold is an experience itself. Warm clothes are necessary included socks, gloves and proper shoes.
ANIMALS The snow leave marks from both humans and animals. Animals that walk on the ground are therefore easy to follow and observe. But there are also a lot of birds in motion during the winter: grouses, black grouse, capercaillie and different kind of small birds.
HUNTING The greatest hunting over here is the elk-hunting which starts the first Monday of September and the season is open till 31st of January. But you have to be a part of a hunting team. For bear hunting it is about the same thing. You may hunt smaller animals and birds in private, but you have to follow the regulations.
FREEDOM WITH RESPONSIBILITY - Respect that you are not allowed driving your vehicle however you like. - It should not be possible to notice that you have been in the nature. - Clean up after yourself! Be careful with fire. Make sure that it is extinguished before you leave it, even though it is winter.
